Apollo Club Harlem

On Monday evening, I opened my closet and looked for clothing that could be considered jazz age attire. I settled on a straight dress, tights, and my beloved Camper Kim shoes. I accessorized with a long thin gold necklace, a black knit cap and red lipstick. Then I strutted to the A train and headed to the opening evening of Apollo Club Harlem. I didn't quite look like the decked out women in old black and white photos I'd seen on the net. But I was excited and anxious to relive a time when jazz music represented popular music in America.   

Les Misérables Parodies

I haven't seen the film Les Misérables yet. After a theater friend of mine was lukewarm on it, I figured that I would wait for the DVD. Better yet, I might just wait for the new stage version which is expected to come to Broadway in March 2014 according to the NYT. In the meantime, I'll watch the Les Miz parodies on youtube. Here are my new top two favorites.

Valentine's Day at The McKittrick Hotel

The McKittrick Hotel is having a Valentine's Day Dance featuring Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra. Jazz age attire required.   

Dinner, Sleep No More and Dance are $250. Sleep No More and Dance are $150. Dinner and Dance are $150. And Dance only is $50.  

As usual, sounds like a whole lot of fun and shakin will be going on at The Mckittrick Hotel.
